The final programme for our BACELL2024 meeting can be downloaded here
There are a few domestic points that we would like to point out for you already now. This concerns the following:
We will set up a registration desk close to the Elafiti hall, which will be staffed on May 1st (14:00-16:00 hr.) and May 2nd (08:00-09:00 hr.). The exact location of the desk will be signposted in the hotel.
Confirmation of your payments of the registration fee: Unfortunately, the logistics for this have been a bit more challenging than we could foresee due to the internal financial procedures at UMCG. In particular, it was not possible for us to see directly in the account where your payments ended up, whether the payment was actually received, or whether it was already booked by our financial department in anticipation of your payment. Therefore, for now, we shall assume that your payment has been received. If it turns out otherwise, we can surely resolve this in due course.
For logistic reasons, we decided not to organize an evening dinner for you on May 1st, especially since the arrival times of the participants in our meeting vary greatly. We propose that you make your own arrangements for dinner in the old town of Dubrovnik, which presents many nice restaurants and bars.
For the different sessions, we have assigned chair persons with priority for the “new generation” of Bacillus researchers. We hope that you will be happy to take up this challenge if your name is listed.
For the two poster sessions, we have decided to arrange socalled “rapid fire” presentations. These rapid fire presentations are 3-minute pitches that give you the opportunity to present yourselves and your poster in 3 minutes. Please try to stick strictly to this short time frame, for instance by limiting your pitch to 2 or 3 slides. The rapid fire presentations were introduced by Prof. Ken-ichi Yoshida during the last BACELL2023 meeting in Kobe, Japan, and we are eager to introduce them in our Dubrovnik meeting as well. The chair of the first rapid fire session will be Ken-ichi Yoshida.
Poster boards will be suited for the A0 format, and posters will be mounted on both sides. To ensure maximum space for discussion, adjacent posters will be presented in the two different poster sessions, as is reflected in the poster numbering in the programme. Poster boards will be placed in a second section of Elafiti hall in the morning of May 2nd and they will be taken away after 15:00 hr. on May 3rd. Therefore, please remove your posters at the end of poster session 2.
At the end of the scientific sessions on May 3rd, we propose to have a plenary discussion on the future of European Bacillus research, e.g. how do we envisage our research priorities for the coming years, what roles can our BACELL community play in this, where can we extend collaborations and how do we acquire the necessary funding?
Altogether, we believe that we have been able to assemble an attractive programme thanks to your contributions, and we very much look forward to meeting you, to listen to your presentations and to discuss the data that we will share.
Best wishes & see you soon in Dubrovnik,
Jolanda & Jan Maarten
